Why choose to be a community nurse?

I choose to work as a community nurse because I want to be able to give back in a meaningful way and promote the health and wellness of the community I grew up in.

Favorite part of nursing?

The job flexibility and the variety of roles you are able to take on as a nurse. I love being able to positively impact others and provide care to those around me.

Starlite Night Gun, BSN, RN

Medical Clinic Nurse

Pablo, St. Ignatius, and Arlee Health Centers

Why do you choose to be a nurse?

I chose to be a nurse because I wanted to help my native community regarding their health issues. I believe that native people need to take an active part in caring for our own people because our epistemology is different from non-native people.

Favorite part of nursing?

My favorite part of nursing is helping patients get healthy. Also, educating the patient about how to practice better health care goals to continue to stay healthy.

Brenda Strysko, FNP, CNM, RN

Why do you choose to be a nurse?

I love being a FNP and CNM because it is challenging, interesting, rewarding and you have the opportunity to keep learning.

Favorite part of nursing?

The best part of nursing is the people. Each person has a story - their health, their children, their families. I feel privileged to hear their story and to work with them addressing their healthcare goals and needs.

Why do you choose to be a nurse?

I choose to be a nurse because I love helping people.

Favorite part of nursing?

When I see a patient and see the smile on their face and hearing them say thank you for everything! Makes me happy that I could do something good for a person.

Why do you choose to be a nurse?

My husband had a severe accident and was in the hospital for 5 months and the nursing staff was amazing which inspired me to pursue Nursing. I also come from a family of RN’s so I feel I was destined to follow those foot steps.

What is your favorite part of nursing?

My favorite part of Nursing is being involved with patient care, we never stop learning and we grow from our patients.
